I need someone with magic. Actual magic. Magic that works. [Morgana >|]

Your reward is a one way ticket off this ship.

Right. [There's nobility and there's stupidity that'll open you up to wise cracks.] No amount of 'magic' will get you out and the wardens can leave if they request the Admiral to let them. Or you drop out.

Magic isn't real.

A scientist with better knowledge of the power you yield than you? Yes, I am.

Yes, because accepting something does something sparkly and dramatic because it's 'magic' and not look any further into how and why it does it, that's a wise man with an open mind.

No. Your limited ability to pull apart the intricacies leads a person to decide a) it's simply yet to be explained and in due course, people will develop the ability to do so, or b) it's magic. Just magic. Why not simply accept a simple one-word solution rather than use that brain of yours? Much easier.

And don't talk to me about worlds, I've travelled them. I've made an entire universe and populated it myself. [The population wasn't sentient, mind, but hey.] Sufficed to say, my expertise outstrips yours by a staggering amount.

Yes, they have different properties, even unexpected, miraculous ones, but it's sheer laziness to place any of them into the category of 'magic'.

Right. I want you to review this conversation and mentally switch around the players and let me know which one of us has a desperate need to be right and refuses to think about his assumptions.

I lived in a 'world' of magic and they were the most narrow-minded, power mad tyrants in existence. Those with magic of course, those without were made commoners or slaves.

That's thing with magic, isn't it? Only 'special' people can use it. Science, all one requires is a good teacher and the time and desire to learn. It's little wonder you're an inmate. You certainly wouldn't contemplate attempting to free anyone who's without magic, would you?

The hat won't work unless the Admiral lets it.
